AHC Productions
The story of AHC Productions is still being written. The moving finger writes and having writ moves on.
Photos
Overview
AHC Productions originated in the Minneapolis area, and made a series of short films in the 1970s.
No AHC Production was ever 'released' to the public, nor screened at a film festival, nor broadcast on television, nor given wide public distribution, until July, 2008 when "Eye of the Holy See" was finally edited together, synchronizing video with audio, for film festival submission.
AHC Productions had an 8 mm 'straight 8' camera that one guy salvaged when his parents were about to throw it out. It was bought as a set along with an 8 mm 'silent' projector from the Camden Drug Store. This was obsolete technology, even in the 1970s. On the other hand, AHC Productions were audiophiles and fairly well equipped with stereo equipment, including decent reel-to-reel tape decks, amplifiers, microphones, and speakers.
Additional Details
The 'C' of AHC stands for 'Club'.
The Productions were a product of the Club. Over the years there was a sequence of clubhouses.
Fun Stuff
Trivia:
- Final editing and post-production on the AHC Production movies was never completed. The films were shot and saved in a cool dark place, and the audio was transferred from reel-to-reel to audio cassette and likewise stored.
- There were a few private screenings at parties, where it was attempted to project the 8 mm film and play the audio from tape. Unfortunately, the only projector available was that same obsolete old device originally bought in a drug store, which did not have sound capabilities.
- The projector was also unreliable and would run faster as it heated up. The hotter it got, the faster it went, until the audio and the video were completely out of synch. The attempt was made to slow the projector down to match the audio by putting on a heavy leather glove and placing 'drag' on the projector mechanism. This was highly unsatisfactory.
- Soon the films were videotaped for posterity (projected on a sheet against
the wall), and then were put into storage and pretty much forgotten about for 30 years.

Goofs:
- The car door sounds were actually recorded using a wooden door
- The same baton was used in "Eye of the Holy See", "Tarzan Jr. and the Cuban
Mercenaries", and "Death on Dutch Elm St." until it slipped out of the 'utility belt'
and fell to the floor at about 3:30 min. into "Death on Dutch Elm St.". It is back in the
belt in the scene immediately following, but that is pretty much the last time it ever appeared
on-screen.

Quotes:
- "When danger calls, beware my darling."
- "The monkey got away."
- "By their uniform appearance I judged them to be a group of fun-loving rock musicians."

FAQ
Q. Why are many of the AHC Productions in black and white?
A. The 'look' of the movies was supposed to imitate the 'B' Movies from the 1950s and 1960s, and besides, in those days color film was much more expensive than B&W.
Q. Since it is a new movie, why does it say MCMLXXV in the closing credits for "Eye of the Holy See?"
A. Film was shot in the 1970s but the movie was never completed until after final editing and post-production was completed in July of 2008 with a view towards a 2009 release.
